How to make a payment receipt
- Open receipt mode and choose a layout. The button on this page opens the editor with Receipt selected. Try the Retail template for an itemised sale, or choose another design.
- Identify the transaction. Add your business and customer names, a receipt number and the date. Enter the item or service, quantity and price. Pick the currency before entering amounts.
- Check the amount received. Review each line and the total. Add any agreed discount and enter a tax amount only when appropriate for your sale. Use Notes for a payment method or transaction reference.
- Preview, download and keep a copy. Check names and amounts in the preview, then download the PDF. Attach it to a message yourself or print it from your PDF viewer.
Already have an invoice in Invoodle? Record the full amount received, then use its receipt conversion. For a deposit or part payment, keep the outstanding balance on the invoice rather than issuing a receipt for the full sale.
Payment receipt example: a small shop sale
A customer buys two notebooks and a pen set, receives a ₹20 discount and pays in cash. Here is how that sale adds up. The names and transaction are fictional; no tax is included in this illustration.

The calculation is ₹300 + ₹100 − ₹20 = ₹380. This example uses the same total calculation as the editor. Your own receipt should reflect the sale and payment in your records.
What to include before you send it
- Your business name and a way for the customer to contact you.
- The customer name, receipt number and transaction date.
- Recognisable items or services, quantities, prices and the currency.
- The total received, any discount or tax entered, and a payment reference in Notes when useful.
This is a practical checklist, not a statement of local tax requirements. The editor calculates the charges you enter; it does not decide which tax treatment applies.

Receipt generator questions
Is this receipt maker free without signing up?
Yes. You can create a receipt, save it in this browser and download the PDF without an account. Sign-in is separate from the browser-local receipt workflow.
Can I make a cash payment receipt?
Yes. Enter the items or service that was paid for, then write “Payment received in cash” in Notes. Include the amount you actually received and check the receipt date before exporting.
Does creating a receipt confirm that a payment arrived?
No. Invoodle does not verify a bank transfer, card transaction or cash payment. You enter the payment record yourself. Check your own records before issuing a receipt.
Can I email the receipt to a customer?
Download the PDF and attach it in your email app. Invoodle does not send the email for you. Review the recipient and attachment before sending.
Can I use another currency?
Yes. Select the currency in the editor before entering prices. The selection changes formatting; it does not convert the item prices into another currency.
Will I find my saved receipts on another device?
Browser-local receipts stay in the browser where you saved them. They do not automatically sync to another device or account. Keep downloaded PDFs or use the backup export in Saved Documents.
