GST invoice preparation for Karnataka

Before billing a Karnataka client or sending an invoice from Bengaluru, confirm the supplier, the establishment receiving the service and the rule for the actual supply. These examples help you check the details before choosing a tax head or downloading a PDF.

India mode selects INR and a supplier GST-number input. It does not select a state registration, determine place of supply, split CGST/SGST/IGST, generate an IRN or file GST returns. Review the required particulars and PDF limits before issue.

Use state code 29 as an identity check

Karnataka is code 29 in the official e-way-bill state master. A state prefix helps identify a registration; it does not validate the complete GSTIN, active status, supply location or entitlement to collect GST.

Confirm the legal customer and registration receiving the service, especially where a business has offices in several states. Do not substitute a Bengaluru office or GSTIN simply because payment comes from that office.

Karnataka’s Commercial Taxes Department helpdesk page links GST taxpayer and office resources. Use the appropriate official GST service for registration or jurisdiction checks; this app does not perform those lookups.

For services, check the recipient rule and its exceptions

Under the ordinary domestic B2B service rule, place of supply follows the registered recipient’s location. Check specific rules first: directly property-related services can follow the property location instead. The billing address alone is not a universal test.

The fictional cases below assume a taxable service supplied from a Bengaluru establishment, an identified registered recipient, no SEZ or cross-border element and no other special treatment. Goods, unregistered recipients and other service categories require their own review.

Collect the right invoice details for the actual transaction

Check registration, the required document and the current notified treatment. An unregistered person must not collect GST as though registered. Registered taxable supplies and registered composition or exempt-supply cases can require different documents; a blank GST field does not establish an exemption.

For a service bill, keep the agreed scope, service period, customer entity, relevant registration and purchase-order details together. Review required invoice particulars, classification, taxable value, tax heads, special wording and issue timing. The client’s payment due date does not decide a statutory issue deadline.

Karnataka’s official GST-law page separates Acts, amendments, rules, notifications and circulars. Check the relevant current material, rather than treating a historical rate table or this page’s example as a notified rate schedule.

Check an assumed ₹8,000 calculation without selecting a rate by city

For arithmetic only, assume a correctly determined ₹8,000 taxable base at a combined 18%. Tax is ₹1,440 and the gross total is ₹9,440. An ordinary intra-state case correctly attracting that treatment would illustrate ₹720 CGST plus ₹720 Karnataka SGST; a correctly classified inter-state case at the same assumed rate would illustrate ₹1,440 IGST.

This does not classify a service or establish the applicable rate, place of supply or registration. Equal totals do not make tax heads interchangeable. Invoodle currently exports one general Tax amount, not the separate components below. The GST preparation page has the shared-engine payment and balance example.

Review the INR editor before issuing a Karnataka tax invoice

The action selects invoice mode, India and INR. It does not select a Karnataka registration, validate a GSTIN or decide the service’s place of supply. Supplier GST-number entry is available; dedicated buyer GSTIN, HSN/SAC, place-of-supply and reverse-charge controls are absent.

The PDF has one general Tax total. One document-level percentage applies to subtotal before the separate order discount. The editor does not split tax heads, resolve per-line rates, determine adjusted taxable bases, create an IRN or file GST returns. Use a suitable reviewed GST workflow when required particulars or reporting are unsupported.

Keep the issued version, supporting contract, corrections and payment evidence. Guest records remain in this browser without automatic device sync; export backups and check references against your financial-year register. The suggested counter uses calendar years. Sharing/account features have separate data handling, and payments and reminders need manual action.
