India Invoice Generator: Prepare a Clear INR Invoice
Start with the agreed work, customer details, amount and payment terms. Before adding GST, check registration, the required document and the supply’s tax treatment. A readable PDF helps billing; it does not complete every GST requirement.
By Invoodle · Updated
India mode selects INR and provides a supplier GST-number field. The editor does not validate GSTINs, split CGST/SGST, generate an IRN or file GST returns. Review the limits below before using the output as a tax invoice.
Currency
Indian Rupee (INR)
Sales tax

Check the current notified rate, classification and tax heads for the supply. INR display and a calculator preset do not establish GST treatment.
Registration
Review aggregate turnover, state/UT, supply type and compulsory/notified registration categories. One headline threshold does not cover every business.
For an ordinary GST tax invoice, review these particulars
- Supplier name, address and GSTIN; issue date and a financial-year-unique consecutive reference of no more than 16 characters in the permitted format.
- Registered recipient name, address and GSTIN/UIN; unregistered recipient particulars where required by value and supply type.
- Supply description and HSN/SAC; quantity and unit for goods.
- Supply value, taxable value after applicable adjustments, and the relevant tax rates and amounts for CGST, SGST/UTGST, IGST and cess.
- Place of supply with state for inter-state supplies, and a different delivery address where applicable.
- Reverse-charge indication and supplier/authorised signature, subject to the applicable electronic-invoice exceptions and special rules.
Agree payment terms and verify what arrives
- Confirm the payment date and any agreed milestone or deposit terms; the payment due date is separate from the tax-invoice issue deadline.
- Check the billing entity, PO and submission route, and verify changed bank or UPI details through a known contact.
- Agree available payment methods and charges. A payment QR code does not verify receipt or guarantee quicker collection.
- Keep evidence of payments and deductions. Reconcile a short receipt before treating it as a discount or changing the invoice total.
Choose the document and confirm registration first
Registration depends on the applicable turnover, state/UT and supply rules, including notified exceptions and compulsory categories. Check sections 22–24 and current notifications rather than deciding from this invoice alone.
A registered supplier normally uses a tax invoice for a taxable supply; composition and exempt-supply cases generally use a bill of supply. An unregistered person must not collect GST as though registered. A quote or receipt is not automatically the prescribed tax document.
Check the invoice particulars, classification and rate
Rule 46 is the starting checklist above, subject to special cases and later amendments. It does not make every recipient detail mandatory in every transaction. Do not infer a universal amount-in-words requirement from a template’s layout.
Identify the actual HSN or SAC and current notified treatment before choosing a rate. The Ministry of Finance’s HSN guidance describes four digits on B2B invoices for turnover up to ₹5 crore in the preceding financial year and six digits above that threshold. Check applicable exceptions and other reporting requirements; do not treat an eight-digit export code as a universal rule for every invoice.
A code finder or calculator preset is an aid to review, not a classification or current-rate determination. Verify the supply’s conditions and effective date rather than copying an old slab table.
Determine place of supply before choosing the tax heads
Compare supplier location with the legally determined place of supply. Ordinary intra-state supplies generally use CGST plus SGST or the relevant UTGST treatment; inter-state supplies generally use IGST. Customer address alone is not the rule for every transaction.
Goods and services have different place-of-supply provisions and exceptions. Exports, SEZ supplies, reverse charge and special valuation cases need their own review. Equal arithmetic totals do not make different tax heads interchangeable.
The current editor has one document-level tax adjustment. Selecting India does not determine the place of supply or export separate CGST, SGST/UTGST and IGST components.

Check a fictional INR calculation
Example INV-2026-0047 assumes a taxable base of INR 10,000 and a combined 18% tax for arithmetic only, with no discount, shipping or cess. Issue date is 18 October 2026 and the agreed payment date is 1 November 2026. These assumptions do not determine registration, classification, tax heads or issue timing; real GSTINs, contacts and addresses are omitted.
The ₹2000.00 received is a subsequent payment, not a discount or an advance-payment illustration. It leaves ₹9800.00 remaining. The example is read-only and does not verify a transfer. This combined-tax table is not a complete GST tax invoice or a statutory tax-head breakdown.
| Component | Calculation or record | Amount (INR) |
|---|---|---|
| Package A | 1 × ₹6,000 | ₹6000.00 |
| Package B | 1 × ₹4,000 | ₹4000.00 |
| Subtotal | Sum of the two lines | ₹10000.00 |
| Assumed combined tax | ₹10,000 × 18% | ₹1800.00 |
| Invoice total | Subtotal plus assumed tax | ₹11800.00 |
| Subsequently received | Manual record in this fictional example | ₹2000.00 |
| Remaining balance | Total less received amount | ₹9800.00 |
Separate invoice issue timing from IRP reporting
For ordinary goods involving movement, section 31 generally requires invoicing by removal; without movement, by delivery or making the goods available. The ordinary service period is generally 30 days from supply, with a 45-day provision for specified insurers and financial institutions and separate special cases. A Net 30 payment agreement does not extend the issue deadline.
The e-invoicing threshold amendment introduced turnover exceeding ₹5 crore from 1 August 2023. Review the relevant financial years, covered supplier classes, documents, transactions and exemptions before deciding applicability.
A separate IRP restriction applies from 1 April 2025: taxpayers with aggregate annual turnover of ₹10 crore or more must report covered invoices, credit notes and debit notes within 30 days of the document date. Check current portal guidance; the reporting window is distinct from the issue deadline.
Where required, complete the IRP process and use its IRN and signed QR information. Invoodle’s PDF, payment QR and sharing QR do not perform that registration or replace the IRP-signed information.
Keep an issued-document register and correction trail
Keep issued and received invoices, adjustments, payment evidence and any IRP acknowledgements with the relevant business records. Use the applicable retention and correction rules; a folder of PDFs alone is not complete GST bookkeeping.
Do not silently overwrite an issued document or reuse a cancelled reference as though it never existed. Preserve the original and correction trail and use the prescribed credit-note, debit-note or other process where applicable.
The suggested invoice counter is browser-local and calendar-year based. Check references against your own financial-year register and other devices; the app does not reserve numbers across your business. Export backups of local records.

Review what the current India editor supports
The action opens invoice mode with INR and a supplier GST-number input. There are no dedicated buyer GSTIN, HSN/SAC, place-of-supply or reverse-charge fields. The PDF uses a general Tax line; notes do not automatically supply a required structured GST breakdown.
One tax percentage applies to the item subtotal before the separate order discount. The editor does not determine the correct taxable base, split tax heads, resolve mixed rates, validate GSTIN/classification, create an IRN or file GST returns. Use a suitable reviewed GST workflow when required particulars are unsupported.
The GST calculator provides preset-rate and assumed intra/inter-state arithmetic. Its choices are not a complete current rate schedule or a tax decision. Guest drafts remain in this browser without automatic device sync; payments and reminders require manual action. Preview the PDF, keep the issued version and submit through the agreed route.
Rates and thresholds on this page were reviewed in October 2026 and do change. Confirm your position with CBIC and the GST Portal or your accountant before relying on it.
