Ireland Invoice Generator: Prepare a Clear EUR Invoice
Start with the agreed work, the correct customer and a clear payment date. Before adding Irish VAT, check registration, the supply’s treatment and the document you need. Use this page to prepare the details and review what the editor can represent.

Ireland mode selects EUR. The editor has one general Tax adjustment, with no dedicated Irish VAT-number, supply-date or per-rate VAT breakdown fields. It does not validate VAT numbers or file returns. Review the limits below before using the PDF as a VAT invoice.

Standard VAT is 23%. Check the supply classification and effective date for reduced, zero-rated, exempt or reverse-charge treatment; an editor preset does not decide the rate.
Registration
Principal thresholds include €42,500 for services and €85,000 for goods, with mixed-supply and other conditions. Revenue calculates annual turnover on a calendar-year basis; check the applicable category.
For an ordinary Irish VAT invoice, check these particulars
- Issue date and a unique sequential reference; supplier full name, address and VAT registration number; customer full name and address.
- Quantity and nature of goods or extent and nature of services; VAT-exclusive unit prices, net payment and applicable discounts or reductions.
- Breakdown by VAT rate and total VAT payable, subject to reverse-charge and special-scheme presentation rules.
- Supply date and, where applicable and different from issue, the advance-payment date.
- Customer VAT number and reverse-charge notation where applicable, with the construction/RCT exception reviewed separately.
- Additional particulars for intra-Community goods, triangulation or a liable tax representative when relevant.
Agree how the client will approve and pay the invoice
- Confirm the due date, purchase-order reference, billing entity and submission channel before sending.
- Agree accepted payment methods and verify changed bank details through a known contact.
- A VAT invoice issue deadline is separate from the payment due date. Writing Net 30 does not extend a tax deadline.
- Record receipts manually and reconcile short payments before changing the invoice. A paid status does not confirm a bank transfer.
Confirm registration and the correct document
Revenue’s principal thresholds include €42,500 for services only and €85,000 for goods. The higher mixed-supply threshold requires at least 90% goods turnover, with an exception for certain goods produced from zero-rated materials. Revenue’s annual-turnover calculation uses a calendar year, excluding VAT and specified transactions.
Receiving supplies from abroad, cross-border sales, non-established traders and SME-scheme eligibility need their own checks. Do not treat the headline thresholds as a complete registration decision.
An accountable person must issue VAT invoices for the customer categories Revenue specifies. An unregistered trader should not show VAT on an invoice; flat-rate farmers have special arrangements. Selecting Ireland in an app does not establish registration.
Check the current VAT rate for the actual supply
Revenue lists a 23% standard rate, 13.5% reduced rate, 9% second reduced rate and 4.8% livestock rate. A zero rate and an exemption are different treatments; a rate table alone does not classify your supply.
From 1 July 2026, the 9% rate applies to hairdressing and qualifying restaurant, catering and hot takeaway supplies, with exclusions for specified drinks. Do not reuse the old 13.5% hairdressing example. Check the supply, date and conditions in Revenue’s current guidance rather than treating every meal or drink alike.
Check full, simplified and foreign-currency invoice requirements
The checklist above covers the ordinary full-invoice starting point. Revenue permits simplified invoicing at no more than €100 or in specified sector-practice circumstances, with required details retained. It cannot be used for intra-Community supplies of goods or services. B2B status alone is not a blanket ban on simplified invoices.
A foreign-currency VAT invoice also needs corresponding euro figures using the prescribed conversion basis or an alternative method agreed with Revenue. Changing the editor’s display currency does not produce both sets of figures.
Revenue’s ordinary issue rule is within 15 days after the end of the supply month. Advance payments have a separate invoice requirement, with exceptions and special deposit rules. Check those rules before using a later payment due date as an issue deadline.
Review cross-border services before applying reverse charge
Under the general B2B service rule, the place of supply follows the business customer’s relevant establishment. Property, events, transport and other services have exceptions. Customer country or an EU VAT number alone does not settle every transaction.
For covered services to a business in another EU Member State, confirm the customer’s status and VAT number, retain evidence, show the required reverse-charge details and include taxable services on the VIES return. Check whether the service is exempt there.
Business customers outside the EU also require evidence of status and establishment. Goods and consumer supplies follow different rules. The editor does not validate VIES numbers, determine place of supply or submit VAT/VIES/OSS returns.
Check a fictional EUR calculation at an assumed 23%
Example INV-2026-0047 assumes a registered Irish supplier and a domestic EUR 1,000 base correctly attracting 23% VAT, with no discount or shipping. It uses an issue date of 18 October 2026 and an agreed payment date of 1 November. Actual VAT numbers, supply details, addresses and contacts are omitted; this table is not a complete VAT invoice or a classification decision.
The subsequent €200.00 receipt leaves €1030.00 due. It reduces the balance, not the tax base. This read-only example does not read your draft, verify a payment or illustrate advance-payment tax timing.
| Component | Calculation or record | Amount (EUR) |
|---|---|---|
| Package A | 1 × €600 | €600.00 |
| Package B | 1 × €400 | €400.00 |
| Subtotal | Sum of the two lines | €1000.00 |
| Assumed VAT | €1,000 × 23% | €230.00 |
| Invoice total | Subtotal plus assumed VAT | €1230.00 |
| Subsequently received | Manual record in this fictional example | €200.00 |
| Remaining balance | Total less received amount | €1030.00 |
Keep issued records and use the appropriate correction process
Keep invoices, credit/debit notes, payment evidence and relevant VAT/VIES and accounting records. Revenue’s general business-record guidance requires six years; VAT claims, appeals, inquiries and property cases can require different or longer retention. Review these before deletion.
A correction is not always just a credit note. Revenue distinguishes supplementary invoices for price increases, credit notes for reductions and credit-note/revised-invoice steps for incorrect VAT amounts. Preserve the issued original and the linked correction trail.
The app has no statutory VAT credit-note mode or cross-device number reservation. Check suggested references against your own register and keep exported backups. An editable browser draft or PDF collection alone is not complete VAT bookkeeping.
Check commercial late-payment rules before adding charges
Ireland’s late-payment rules cover qualifying commercial transactions in the public and private sectors. The relevant payment date depends on the transaction and agreement; a universal “Net 30” claim misses those conditions.
The statutory rate uses the ECB reference rate plus eight percentage points unless an agreed contract specifies otherwise, with rates set for six-month periods. Check the official rate for each relevant period. Recovery-cost compensation bands are €40, €70 or €100 according to invoice value when the entitlement applies.
Invoodle does not determine legal entitlement, collect charges or send reminders automatically. Reconcile the outstanding amount and resolve a disputed invoice before preparing a manual follow-up.
Review what the current Ireland editor supports
The action opens invoice mode with EUR. There are no dedicated supplier/customer Irish VAT-number, supply-date, reverse-charge or per-rate VAT-breakdown controls; the PDF uses a general Tax line. Notes do not automatically validate statutory particulars. Use a suitable reviewed workflow if required information or presentation is unsupported.
One tax percentage applies to the item subtotal before the separate order discount. The editor does not resolve mixed rates, taxable-base adjustments, registration, euro conversion, place of supply or tax filing. The linked calculator opens an Ireland/23% arithmetic example; its presets do not classify a supply.
Guest records remain in this browser without automatic device sync. Preview the PDF, keep the issued version and use the client’s agreed submission channel. Payments and reminders require manual action.
Rates and thresholds on this page were reviewed in October 2026 and do change. Confirm your position with Revenue or your accountant before relying on it.
