UAE Invoice Generator: Prepare an AED Invoice
Start with the agreed work, customer identity, amount and payment date. Before issue, check registration, the applicable invoice route and the required VAT particulars. Choosing AED in an editor answers none of those tax questions by itself.
By Invoodle · Updated
UAE mode selects AED. This editor exports an ordinary Invoice PDF and has no dedicated TRN fields or structured UAE e-invoicing connection. Use a suitable workflow when statutory tax-invoice requirements apply.

Standard VAT is 5%; zero-rated, exempt and other treatment depend on the transaction. AED display does not establish the correct tax treatment.
Registration
For UAE residents, check taxable supplies/imports over AED 375,000 in the past 12 months or expected in the next 30 days. Non-resident rules differ; voluntary eligibility also has conditions.
If you need an ordinary full VAT invoice, review these particulars
- Display Tax Invoice and the supplier’s name, address and TRN.
- Include the registered recipient’s name, address and TRN.
- Use a sequential reference, or a unique number identifying the invoice and its order; include issue date and supply date if different.
- Describe each supply with unit price, quantity/volume, VAT rate and amount payable in AED.
- Show discounts, gross payable and VAT in AED, with the exchange rate where currency is converted.
- Add the required statement and legal reference where the recipient must account for VAT.
Agree payment details and the client’s billing process
- Confirm the calendar due date, what starts the payment period and any agreed milestone or deposit terms.
- Check the legal customer, billing contact, PO and supplier-portal requirements before submission.
- Agree the payment method, currency conversion and any intermediary charges. Verify changed bank details through a known contact.
- Check the contract and applicable law before adding fees or interest. Record actual receipts and follow up manually on the remaining balance.
Check registration before selecting VAT
For a UAE-resident business, mandatory VAT registration generally applies when taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 over the previous 12 months, or are expected to exceed it in the next 30 days. Voluntary registration has an AED 187,500 threshold and can include qualifying taxable expenses; check eligibility and timing with the FTA.
Non-residents can need registration below the threshold when making taxable UAE supplies unless another UAE party is responsible for settling the VAT. Do not infer status from this invoice alone.
The standard rate is 5%. Zero-rated, exempt and outside-scope treatment are different questions with conditions. A free-zone address, an overseas customer or a broad sector label is not enough to decide the transaction’s treatment.
Choose the invoice route and issue deadline
Only registrants issue VAT tax invoices. The checklist above covers the ordinary full-invoice route; simplified, special and structured electronic cases need their own review.
Outside structured e-invoicing, simplified eligibility generally covers an unregistered recipient, or a registered recipient whose VAT-inclusive consideration is no more than AED 10,000. Article 48 reverse-charge cases are excluded, and the FTA can specify full-invoice cases. A simplified invoice still needs its prescribed identity, supply and AED total/VAT details.
The linked consolidated Regulation includes amendments effective 1 October 2026 and marks its English text as an unofficial translation. Use current rules and the authoritative legal text when resolving a specific case.
| Route | Timing to review |
|---|---|
| Full invoice | Generally within 14 days of the date of supply. |
| Simplified invoice | On the date of supply. |
| Qualifying summary invoice | Issue and deliver within 14 days after the calendar month containing the supplies’ dates of supply. |
A foreign currency does not remove AED particulars
The ordinary full-invoice requirements include AED amounts for supplies, gross payable and VAT, with the exchange rate where converted. Simplified invoices require total consideration and VAT in AED. Adding only one AED VAT figure to a USD invoice can leave required particulars missing.
Use the UAE Central Bank-approved rate applicable at the date of supply for VAT conversion, following FTA guidance. Retain the rate, date and calculation. A general currency converter or bank settlement rate is not automatically the required VAT conversion basis.
The app’s currency selector changes the display currency. It does not fetch the applicable historical VAT rate of exchange or automatically create the required dual-currency particulars.
Check a fictional AED calculation
Example INV-2026-0046 assumes the whole AED 3,000 base correctly attracts 5% VAT, with no discount or shipping. Issue date is 18 October 2026 and the agreed due date is 1 November 2026. These are arithmetic assumptions, not registration, tax-point or rate decisions. Real TRNs, addresses and contact details are omitted; this is not a complete tax invoice.
The د.إ500.00 received is a subsequent payment against the bill, not a discount or an advance-payment tax-point example. It leaves د.إ2650.00 remaining without reducing the invoice’s VAT. This read-only example never replaces your draft or verifies a transfer.
| Component | Calculation or record | Amount (AED) |
|---|---|---|
| Service package A | 2 × AED 1,000 | د.إ2000.00 |
| Service package B | 1 × AED 1,000 | د.إ1000.00 |
| Subtotal | Sum of the two lines | د.إ3000.00 |
| Assumed VAT | AED 3,000 × 5% | د.إ150.00 |
| Gross total | Subtotal plus assumed VAT | د.إ3150.00 |
| Subsequently received | Manual payment record in this fictional example | د.إ500.00 |
| Remaining balance | Gross total less received amount | د.إ2650.00 |
Check the structured e-invoicing programme separately
The UAE programme uses structured invoice exchange and electronic reporting to the FTA through its prescribed service-provider workflow. Ordinary PDFs, scans, Word files and emails are not programme eInvoices.
Check your scope, implementation date and Accredited Service Provider appointment deadline on the Ministry of Finance’s current programme page, including its 2026 amendments. An appointment deadline can precede implementation; do not use an old rollout announcement as your only source.
Article 59(16) changes which ordinary invoice clauses apply to mandatory or voluntary structured electronic invoices. Do not assume the simplified option carries into that system. Invoodle does not exchange PINT AE data, connect to an Accredited Service Provider or report invoices to the FTA.
Keep records and preserve the correction trail
FTA guidance describes VAT records kept for at least five years after the relevant tax period, with real-estate records retained for 15 years. Keep issued/received invoices, credit notes, supplies/imports, adjustments and supporting calculations. Check longer holds and other tax duties before deleting records.
Determine whether a tax credit note, additional invoice or another prescribed correction applies. Keep the issued version and a clear link to the correction instead of silently overwriting a PDF. Statutory credit notes have their own requirements.
VAT and other accounting or tax records serve different duties. Browser-local drafts and a folder of PDFs alone do not establish that every obligation has been met. Export records and keep retrievable backups.
Review what the current AED editor can represent
The action on this page opens invoice mode and AED. The PDF uses an Invoice heading and a general Tax total. UAE mode has no dedicated supplier/customer TRN inputs, separate supply-date field or per-line VAT classification and breakdown. Notes do not automatically validate statutory particulars.
One document-level tax adjustment applies to subtotal before the separate order discount. The editor does not automatically reduce that tax base for the discount, resolve mixed rates or reverse charge, validate TRNs, issue a dedicated statutory tax credit note or file VAT returns.
Use a suitable reviewed workflow when required fields or structured exchange are missing. The VAT calculator performs selected-rate arithmetic; it does not decide your registration or supply treatment. Guest drafts stay in this browser without automatic device sync, and payments/reminders require manual action.
Rates and thresholds on this page were reviewed in October 2026 and do change. Confirm your position with the Federal Tax Authority or your accountant before relying on it.
